DNB’s role in the Caribbean Netherlands

Welcome to De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) in the Caribbean Netherlands. Constitutional reforms took place within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 10 October 2010. Under these reforms Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba – also known as the BES Islands – have become public bodies within the Dutch constitutional order.One effect of these changes is that DNB has become responsible for payment services and supervising financial undertakings in the Caribbean Netherlands.

Supervision

As a result of the constitutional reforms, DNB has taken over the role of supervisory authority in the Caribbean Netherlands from the Netherlands Antilles Bank (BNA) and the present Central Bank of Curaçao and St Maarten (CBCS).

Payment transactions

The US dollar became legal tender in the Caribbean Netherlands on 1 January 2011. This means that there has been a switch from the Netherlands Antilles guilder to the US dollar. At the request of the Ministry of Finance, DNB provided assistance with the introduction and switch.
