Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba (the BES islands) became public entities in the Netherlands effective from 10 October 2010. Together, they constitute the Caribbean Netherlands. Since 1 January 2011 the legal tender in the Caribbean Netherlands is the US dollar, which replaced the Netherlands Antillean guilder. See the section "Change of currency" for more information.
De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) is responsible for ensuring an effective payment system in the Caribbean Netherlands. In addition to facilitating the smooth introduction of the US dollar, this includes managing the money supply of dollar banknotes and coins.
The links below will refer you to more information about the payment system in the BES area. The brochure 'Effective payments in Bonaire' provides more information about the local payment facilities.
